Deep Dive: COMCheck As A Resource
This course will provide attendees an in-depth review of the US Dept. of Energy's COMCheck software systems used for demonstrating energy code compliance within the Prescriptive Compliance Path. The course will identify the flexibility of design possibilities while reinforcing the minimum safeguards of the Energy Code on occupant comfort, health and safety. Afterwards attendees will further review the process for reviewing the compliance reports to verify that the mandatory safeguards for occupants and general public health are incorporated and that the proposed project will result in a safe and habitable building.

Best Practices: Residential Manual S
This course focuses on the best practices for using ACCA’s Residential Manual S, which provides guidelines for selecting and sizing HVAC equipment based on load calculations. Participants will learn how the use of the Manual S can properly match heating and cooling equipment to the load demands established by Manual J calculations, ensuring optimal system performance, efficiency, and comfort.

Insulation Alternative Designs
Insulation is an essential building components regulated by the Energy Code. It is an element of the Building Thermal Envelope and serves to provide thermal resistance and create separation between the exterior environment from the interior spaces. We are going to take a look at the different types of Insulation and how these products provide the required thermal resistance intending by the energy code to maintain a safe and energy efficient structure

Residential Compliance Paths
This session takes a look at the flexibility and options provided in the International Energy Conservation Code in determining paths of demonstrating code compliance. Attendees will review what type of documentation is needed for each path and how the requirements of the code promote the health, safety, and welfare of building occupants and the general public. We will look at how REScheck reports and Energy Raters are used as compliance metrics and how the 'Prescriptive' and 'Mandatory' items of the Energy code are impacted or affected by the compliance path chosen in the design process.

Best Practices: Commercial Submittal Documents
This course will review the submittal documents required to demonstrate code compliance with the Minnesota Commercial Energy Code. We will discuss the items that are often missing from submittal that are frequently identified for supplemental submissions. The information in this session will reinforce and review the health and safety impacts of these missing details while also identifying best practices for efficient plan review.

Residential Design & the Energy Code
This course will address the design components identified in the Minnesota Residential Energy Code that support overall code compliance and occupant safety. The course identifies the critical safety and resilience considerations that are made in the project planning process that impact occupant safety and building resilience. We will review the plans approval process; how plan details and code analysis support efficiency; and the various code compliance options for both commercial and residential projects.
